Sports

Sport is an integral and vital part of Ashfield Boys High School program. It is compulsory for all students between the years of 7-10. Grade sport is optional for year 11 and 12 students. Our sport program aims to provide a substantial range of benefits and activities for all the students and the community. Apart from competing and challenging themselves against other competitors, our boys have an opportunity to enjoy the activity itself and the social interaction that goes with it.  Most importantly, students improve their movement skills, experience success, feel supported and valued, and develop a healthy lifestyle.

All sporting activities offer physical, physiological and psychological benefits to all students. With Australian people and young Australians in particular becoming obese and sedentary, participation in regular physical activity has become more important. Improved health, physical fitness and self-esteem can be gained through the regular activity that we aim to achieve on a weekly basis.

Ashfield Boys High School is a member of North Western Metropolitan High Schools Sports Association. We compete against the following high schools: Asquith BHS, Epping BHS, Homebush BHS, Normanhurst BHS, North Sydney BHS and Randwick BHS.  Sport occurs every Wednesday afternoon between 12.30 and 14.30.  Starting and finishing times vary depending on the opponent and the venue where a particular sport will be played.

Ashfield Boys High School holds annual Swimming and Athletics carnivals at Ashfield Aquatic Centre and Campbell Athletic Field. These carnivals are regularly hosted in Terms 1 and 3 respectively. Students who perform well will represent the school at the Northwest Metropolitan Zone Swimming (Auburn Aquatic Centre) and Athletics Carnivals (Olympic Park Athletic Centre). Ashfield Boys High School also enters teams in various knockout competitions as well as in the Northwest Metropolitan Zone Cross Country carnival.
