Library

The Ashfield Boys High School Library is a welcoming space that supports the teaching and learning within the school. The Library provides staff and students access to technology and comprehensive, regularly updated physical and digital resources to encourage and cultivate a love of reading and learning.

The library is open from 8:30 to 4:15 pm Monday and Tuesday and 8:30 to 3:20 pm Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Students are also welcome to use the Library during their break time to study, read or to play chess quietly.

The Library runs and oversees the Renaissance Accelerated Reading program of students in Years 7-10. Students in Year 7-8 have a timetabled lesson in the Library each week with the qualified Teacher Librarian where the students are taught how to use the library and encouraged to read regularly and widely.

The Library has a class set of iPads and laptops and a photocopy machine that students and staff can access during timetabled lessons and break times.  Students can use the technology to study and complete their classwork or assignments or to access the many school digital subscription such as ClickView, Renaissance Learning, Wheelers ePlatform digital Library and JSTOR digital academic journals.

The Library is also a hub for extra curricula activities within the school. Mondays and Tuesdays the Library hosts a free homework centre from 3:15 to 4:15 pm and is staffed by experienced teachers from English, Maths and Science to assist students with their homework and assignments. The Library also hosts a free Chess Club on Thursday afternoon from 2:30 to 3:30 pm and is supported by an experienced chess coach. The Library also facilitates various chess tournaments each year.
