Student Leadership
Student leadership helps young people find their voices, participate in decision-making, and understand their rights and responsibilities as active citizens. It helps students have a real impact on their learning and school environment and prepares them to participate meaningfully in their community.
Students can be leaders in the classroom, through their actions in the playground, through their support for others, or their involvement in academic, sporting, cultural or local community events or projects.

Your son's safety is paramount to us, his wellbeing, and his involvement in our school community where we promote positive relationships between the students is integral to our aims in helping him to become a:
- Good problem solver, communicator and decision maker.
- Encourage mutual respect, encouragement and assistance.
- Promote non-confrontational interaction between the student bodies.
- Facilitate a culture where self-discipline is actively practiced and pride in the schools name is developed into a quality that carries over into their local communities.
Consideration is given to others feelings and property in a respectful manner.
International Women's Day
Term 1 Week 2026
International Women’s Day and this year’s theme is “Balancing the Scales”. In previous years, the boys have collected and delivered donations of sanitary items to one of their chosen charitable organisations, the Women and Girls Emergency Centre (WAGEC). WAGEC is an amazing organisation which supports women and families in crisis. This year WAGEC asked that the boys focus on advocacy rather than donations. To mark International Women’s Day the student leadership team invited Satara Uthayakumaran, Australia’s UN Youth ambassador to speak with the SRC. They have also invited the leadership teams from Canterbury Girls and Burwood Girls to attend and participate in focus groups looking at how we can all “balance the scales”.
Future Leaders Conference
Term 2 Week 6 2026
A group of Year 11 SRC members attended the Future Leaders Conference hosted by Fort Street High School. Throughout the event, students listened to a series of keynote speakers from a variety of fields, including entrepreneurs from diverse industries, who shared their experiences, leadership insights, and the challenges they overcame throughout their journeys. Students also observed a panel discussion focused on strategies for managing mental health challenges and stress during demanding exam periods. Following a catered lunch, the boys participated in collaborative student workshops alongside peers from other schools. The students should be commended for the maturity, dedication, and enthusiasm they displayed throughout the day, representing Ashfield Boys High School with pride.
Summer Hill Public School Leadership Visit
Term 2 Week 7 2026
Our SRC team welcomed student leaders from Summer Hill Public School for a collaborative workshop focused on sharing ideas and exploring how each school engages its Student Representative Council. The workshop was a valuable opportunity for students to learn from one another and recognise that leadership extends beyond their own school communities. It was particularly rewarding for our SRC members to inspire younger students who aspire to future leadership roles. A special thank you to Melanie Oxley, Assistant Principal at Summer Hill Public School, for bringing along her enthusiastic SRC team. We are confident that both schools gained valuable insights and ideas that will further strengthen their respective SRC programs.
