Stories and highlights
There's always something to celebrate at our school! From exciting events to proud moments and everyday wins, here are some of our highlights.
A year at our school
New Senior Courtyard Opening - Thursday, 27 February 2025
We officially opened the new Senior Courtyard on Thursday with a very hasty ribbon cutting by Sury the 2025 School Captain. The boys were desperate to get into the new space and use the equipment! Although there is still more landscaping and equipment to come, the outdoor pool and foosball tables are in place and have already had a great workout.
This space is the latest in our staged plan to transform every area of the school site. The equipment was chosen by the boys and is the next part of the strategy to create an active playground – especially since we are school where kids are not on phones or devices during breaks.
This was made possible by the support of our wonderful P&C who funded the seating and flooring. The shade structure was funded by a Federal government grant. We are incredibly thankful to everyone who contributed to the project to turn a dead space into something wonderful.
Volleyball Final Under 14s vs Homebush Boys High School at Thornleigh - Wednesday, 26 February 2025
What an exhilarating game! The match remained intense until the very last moments, with Homebush Boys narrowly securing the win by just two points. Our team put up an incredible fight, displaying great skill and determination throughout.

Historic Victory: Ashfield Boys 1st Grade Basketball Wins Grand Final! - Wednesday, 26 February 2025
The ABHS 1st Grade basketball team made history by securing the school's first opens championship in over 20 years with a thrilling 43-37 victory over Asquith Boys in the Grand Final at Auburn PCYC.
From the opening tip, ABHS came out with intensity and focus, setting the tone with suffocating defence. Immediately disrupting Asquith's offensive rhythm and forcing turnovers that led to easy transition buckets. Balanced scoring, quick ball movement and smart shot selection kept the scoreboard ticking over and by halftime we had established a commanding double digit lead, conceding just 13 points.

International Women's Charity Drive - 8 March 2025
The SRC, in collaboration with the Prefects, organised a charity drive for International Women's Day, supporting the Women's and Girls Emergency Centre in Sydney. Over the past two weeks, the community generously donated essential items such as long-lasting food and toiletries. These donations will provide vital support to the most vulnerable women and children in our community. Pictured are the Prefects, who will assist in delivering the many bags of donations, made possible by the generous ABHS community. We are extremely grateful to everyone who participated and helped raise awareness for this important cause. The theme for International Women's Day, "Accelerating Action," aligns strongly with this charity drive, as the donations contribute to ending gender-based violence and advancing gender equality.
Peer Mentor Program - Wednesday, 19 March 2025
Year 7 students and their Year 10 Peer Mentors participated in the Marshmallow Challenge. The groups had to build the tallest free-standing structure from some spaghetti sticks, tape, and string and place one whole marshmallow on the top. The exercise teaches essential lessons about the creative product development process and the nature of collaboration.
Ashfield Boys High School Competes in Canterbury Boys' Maxwell L. Fuller Chess Tournament
The tournament, hosted by Canterbury Boys’ High School, featured a series of intense matches that tested both the intellectual abilities and mental endurance of the players. Representing Ashfield Boys High School were several promising students, ranging from seasoned chess club members to newcomers eager to make their mark on the game. The team was composed of players who have been practicing rigorously for months under the guidance of their coaches, Mr. Munro, a former chess champion himself and Louie Comitogianni, ABHS Dux for 2023.
